Christmas at the Beach

This year Teddy and I headed to Delaware
for a family reunion with Teddy's brothers and parents
We rented out a beach house so we could all be together.

When we headed to the beach we soon realized
it wasn't quite what we had in mind.......

....it was under construction

We eventually found a spot where we could do down by the water

Whenever we go to the beach we have to touch the water
No mater how cold it is

The kids wanted to join in on the fun too
(Teddy and I were probably bad examples-oops)

We were amazed that Peter didn't get drenched
because he fell just as a wave came in.
Surprisingly only the bottom of his pants got wet

Painting Christmas Ornaments

One tradition that Teddy and I have is to paint ornaments every year at Christmas time
These ornaments show either something that happened
or something that we did during the year.
This is a fun way to look back at things we have done throughout our marriage

This year Annalia got to help paint an ornament
(After all, she is something important that happened this past year)

This is our attempt to make an ornament with Annalia's hand print

Annalia's hand definitely got on the ornament
but not quite like we had pictured

I ended up tracing her hand on paper and then tracing that onto the ornament
I also put her name and birthdate.
We left Annalia's design and the other side
It turned out cute, but the photo I took didn't do it justice

Teddy once watched a program on the food network
which showed two small businesses
both claiming to have the best Philly cheesesteaks.

Since that time it has been on Teddy's bucket list
to find out who's cheesesteak really is the best.

We then ate half a sandwich from both places

(our flight the night before was supposed to land at 10:30 PM,
but due to delays we didn't get to our hotel until 4:30 AM,
so we had a really late start to our day)

Teddy was super busy with school during the month of November,
so Annalia and I decided to head to Utah

We spent the first part of the trip having a blast with Alan, Cindi, Cory & Daisy

Sitting Up All By Herself!
On Nov 18th (one week shy of being 4 months old)
Annalia sat up by herself for 3 consecutive minutes.
I was shocked because most kids don't sit up until 6 months old.
I thought it was a fluke, but she has proved me wrong.
She now sits by herself and will even reach to play with toys.
She lasts anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes at a time.

First we carved our bell pepper jack-o-lanterns

They made delicious meatloaf rats

The rats then ate the pumpkin brains (aka spaghetti) in the pumpkin patch

Teddy and I love to go hiking, but living in Houston we don't get the opportunity to go as often as we would like. However, he actually had time off from school, so we headed up to hill country. It's nothing like the mountains in Utah, but it was still nice to get away from the city.

Getting Hit by a Lightening Bolt

One our drive home from Galveston we went through a severe thunderstorm. With absolutely no warning we saw and heard what I would describe as a bomb. It was big flash of red, orange and white fire accompanied by the loudest sound I have ever heard. A lightening bolt hit the front right side of our car. Immediately afterwards, Cindi said she felt the hair on her arm stand up and Teddy felt the hair on his toes stand up. It was a scary experiencing knowing how close we had come to having something terrible happen. Luckily there was no damage to the car and everyone was alright. Cindi and I were scared out of our minds, but Teddy was calm and collected and even commented "Well that was fun".

Moral of the story..If Teddy asks if you want to do something fun. Just say NO!!!

AWWW Sleep
For the past week Annalia has slept 6 hours straight wakes up for a feeding and then sleeps for another 3 hours. This has been wonderful; however, Annalia has decided that she no longer likes to takes naps longer than 5-10 minutes. She is sooooo tired and cranky, but refuses to fall asleep. This has made for a really really long week. Hopefully we can solve this problem really soon!

1st Good Night of Sleep in a Very Very Long Time
8-26-11 Annalia went to her first party (birthday party for one of Teddy's classmates). All of the girls from Teddy's class did an awesome job at watching and playing with Annalia. They helped kept her awake for 5 hours straight. That night Annalia slept 6 hours straight, it was wonderful

Therapy Time
Annalia's been practicing turning her head and then shifting her weight laterally in order to prepare to learn how to roll from her tummy to her back. She's holding her head up for longer each day and tolerating tummy time for about 7-10 minutes. She's also starting to weight bear into her legs while standing next to her basketball

First Giggle
8-18-11 Teddy and I were laying in bed talking about optics of Cameras. I made a sarcastic remark about Cameras having better than 20/20 vision. All of a sudden Teddy and I heard Annalia start giggling for 5-7 seconds. It was the cutest thing and right on cue. Teddy and I couldn't help and laugh. We can't wait for her to start reacting more and hearing her laugh more and more

Two Weeks Old

Tummy Time

Annalia's holds her head up between 45 seconds and 2 minutes

On 8-9-11 during tummy time Teddy was teaching Annalia how to roll over. Well about 5 minutes later I put her down for some more tummy time and before I knew it she had rolled over from her tummy to her back. She rolled over her right arm. It was fun for both Teddy and I to watch.

Growing Up

Annalia outgrew her first thing this week. It was the inner carseat headrest.

OK, so from the moment we brought her home it was already too small and Annalia hated when we would squeeze her head into it. Now that we have removed it she is much more content in her carseat. However, she's still not a fan of the carseat if she's not moving while in it!

Memories From This Week

I love waking up to feed Annalia in the middle of the night. Wait let's rephrase that....I love seeing Annalia smile while I rock her back to sleep, it sure makes it easier to get out of bed every 2-3 hours.

One night I was reading scriptures with Annalia. We came to a verse that said that the people cried mightly unto God and immediately Annalia let out a loud cry. I looked at her and said that's exactly what crying mightly means. I then taught her a lesson that Heavenly Father always hears our cries and prayers

At the hospital the lactation specialist recommended that I do skin on skin with Annalia. They also looked at Teddy and said "dad you should try it too" Well later that week Teddy was excited to try skin on skin time. After he was finished he came in and said "I loved it but that was painful" "She was yanking on my chest hair the whole time"

False Labor

(Sorry for the long story with no fun pictures to look at)

Throughout the last month of my pregnancy I had frequent Braxton Hicks contractions where my stomach would tighten, but they never really bothered me. On the morning of Friday July 15th I started having contractions, but these were different...they were painful. I started to keep track and was surprised that they were consistently 10 minutes apart for 3 hours straight. I had a dr. appointment that afternoon and found out that my cervix had begun to dilate, but only very very slightly (1/2 centimeter).

Over the next few days I continued to have frequent, but not regular painful contractions. The doctor had given me some guidelines. He said to use the Houston (713) or Austin (512) area codes to determine if I need to call the doctor. This meant if the contractions were 7 minutes apart for 3 consecutive hours, or 5 minutes apart for 2 hours that I should call the dr. to see what to do next.

At work on Monday July 18th, I had contractions that were 7 minutes apart for 2 consecutive hours. I decided that I should go home b/c I was getting close to that 713 guideline. Once I got home the contractions pretty much stopped. That night I was feeling great so Teddy and I went shopping and got items that we would need for our hospital stay. We also bought a stop watch so that I could easily time my contractions. That night we decided to pack our hospital bags in case anything happened over the next few days.

Annalia must have been getting excited while we were packing the hospital bags because during the middle of the night I woke up to some intense contractions. I tried to ignore them, but they were strong and regular. At first they felt like bad mentral cramps in my lower back, but then they became more and more intense. The pain in my back was constant, so I figured that was just going to stay the same. This meant that in order to keep track how far apart the contractions were, I needed to pay attention to the strong stomach contractions. Well they were like clock work at almost exactly 3 minutes apart. They lasted 1 to 1 1/2 minutes each and they were 5's on the pain scale.

At 7:00 am they had been going 4 hours straight. Teddy needed to get up and go to work and doing so would take the car. I didn't feel comfortable being home alone having such close contractions. I was nervous because the contractions were closer together and had last longer than the guidelines that the dr. had given. I decided to call the dr. office and see what they suggested. My dr. was out of the office for the week, so I talked with the on call dr's nurse. She suggested that we go to the hospital b/c the contractions lasting that long and that intense could have changed my cervix. Well I really didn't feel it necessary to go to the hospital, I just wanted a dr. to check me out. However, my dr. was out of the office for the week and honestly I didn't know what to do. So, Teddy and I headed to the hospital. I felt pretty silly, but decided it was better to be safe than sorry. We got there and to make a long story short the contractions pretty much stopped as soon as we got there and I was still only 1/2 centimeter dilated. I don't really understand why they stopped, but they did. We were sent home from the hospital and I was told to just take it easy for the rest of the day.(I told one of my co-workers about this experience and she made the comment that Annalia really must be my daughter b/c she's already playing practical jokes)

Well we all know that I can't relax or take it easy, so I decided to go into work for the afternoon. My contractions almost immediately started back up once we left the hospital. I really believe that I would have went into labor if they had me get up and walk around, but I'm glad that Annalia waited a few more days b/c Teddy needed to finish up projects at work.

I asked the nurse how I would know if I was truly in labor. She told me that the contractions for labor would need to be a lot more intense. This advice truly impacted my response and attitude on the day that I went into REAL labor :)

Teddy and I carved orange bell peppers as our "pumpkins"

Our friends Elliot and Lara joined in on the fun.

We then filled the pepper with spaghetti for a wonderful Halloween dinner

Followed by dirt and worms for dessert, yum!!!

I'm always thinking about being on OT, so I jumped at the opportunity for the kids to pick up their candy using my reacher. I'm always encouraging kids to work on eye hand coordination.

Houston Rodeo

Teddy and I are officially becoming Texans. We went to the Houston rodeo 2 times in one week. We had a great time and were lucky enough to see both Reba McEntire and Keith Urban perform. We’ve posted some videos of the rodeo. We hope that the Houston rodeo will become a family tradition.

Museum of Health and Medical Science

A few weeks ago, Teddy and I went to the Museum of Health and Medical Science in downtown Houston. As you can see Sarah is the brains of the family. While at the museum Teddy was able to perform his first laser eye surgery.

Thanks to Tim we have been able to go to a couple Rocket games. Although Teddy still loves the Jazz, the Rockets are the second best in the west. Got to love that Yao Ming is just as tall as that lady on the platform behind him. He's Huge. Ricky, we thought we would send you some Argentine love from Luis Scola. He made that free throw for you; for you man!!!!

Sarah’s Internship at NTS

For the past 6 weeks I have been busy completing my last internship at an outpatient pediatric clinic. I am having a wonderful time, learning a lot, and enjoying interacting with the children. However, I’m ready to start earning money!!! I finish my internship in the middle of April.

Although we are not the biggest fan of the city of Las Vegas we certainly love our family there. We absolutely enjoyed the time we spent with them.

Yellowstone 2008

This last summer Teddy took me to Yellowstone National Park to see the most beautiful waterfall. The 16 mile hike to union falls ended up being 18 miles because we took a wrong turn. The view was gorgeous and worth the hike; however, the next 2 days we could barely move. We camped within the park and were surprised how cold it could get in the middle of August. We enjoyed the scenery, but can’t say the same for the sulfur.

Thanks to a great organization called "Operation Smile" Teddy and I were able to go to Ireland for an international student conference. The conference was amazing and the scenery was magnificent. We want to be able to go back there someday, but for now these pictures and our memories will have to do.
